MultiChoice Africa, organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA) on Sunday, March 24, 2024, unveiled nominees for the 10th edition which is set to be held on Friday, May 10 to Saturday, May 11, 2024.

‘Over The Bridge’ by Tolu Ajayi raked 12 nominations, the most by one movie at this year’s event ahead ‘Breath of Life’ and CJ Obasi’s ‘Mami Wata’ which got 11 nominations each.

‘Jagun Jagun’ (10) by Femi Adebayo, ‘Blood Vessel’ (8), Editi Effiong’s ‘The Black Book’ (5), and Funke Akindele’s ‘A Tribe Called Judah’ (5) where among films with multiple nominations for this year’s award ceremony

Femi Odugbemi, the head judge of the awards, in his opening remarks for the nominee announcement, disclosed that “in the performance category, the best actor, the best actress, and their supporting categories will be decided by our world-class panel of judges.”

In the non-voting category, the jury will vote among Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Breath of Life, Over The Bridge, Blood Vessel, A Tribe Called Judah, The Black Book, and MAMI WATA for Best Overall Movie.

Kenyan movie, Thief, which premiered at the Century Cinemax cinema at Two Rivers has begun streaming on MyMoviesAfrica.

The thriller, directed by Andrew Odera and Kiwo Maole is set in Nairobi and follows the compelling journey of Oliver (Lucarelli Onyango) – a reformed ex-thief faced with the impossible task of saving his critically ill son.

When an unexpected opportunity arises to secure his son’s future, via a wealthy benefactor – Edward (Neville Misati), through a daring heist of Donna’s (Helen Keli) fortune, Oliver finds himself torn between desperation and morality.

“We are thrilled to bring Thief to audiences worldwide,” said directors Andrew Odera and Kiwo Maole.

“It’s a story that resonates with the universal themes of love, sacrifice and the pursuit of redemption.

Speaking about her role in the movie, Helen Keli who plays Donna said the experience was rewarding.

“Witnessing the final product left me in awe, and amazed at how captivating the movie turned out to be.

“I feel fortunate to have contributed to such an exceptional project.”

Sharing his thoughts about the movie’s premiere, Neville Msati said he was open to working with Kiwo and Andrew again.

“The final edit of the movie exceeded my expectations on what it would be.

“It was a very pleasant surprise, and the reception was amazing! I expect to partner a lot with Kiwo and Andrew, either as cast or crew on future shoots.”
