THE TONTO MASTERS OF KAINAMO’ Premieres in Uganda and Worldwide on MyMovies.Africa™

23rd September 2024, Nairobi: A 2022 Ugandan Documentary on the Tradition of making Beer from Bananas: ‘THE TONTO MASTERS OF KAINAMO’, has made its Worldwide Premiered on Kenyan Digital Cinema Extension – MyMovies.Africa™.

Set in the heart of Kainamo Village - Bushenyi, in southwestern Uganda, ‘THE TONTO MASTERS OF KAINAMO’ tells the Story of the fading Art of Tonto (Banana Beer) Brewing - a cherished Tradition among the Banyankore people. Narrated by Nsaba Leonard Mafara, this Documentary takes you on an intimate journey with Brewmaster - Kiiza Francis, into the meticulous Process of crafting Tonto - from Ripening the Bananas in a carefully prepared Pit, to the final Fermentation in wooden Boats. As modernisation Threatens to erase these Age-old Techniques, the Film showcases the delicate Balance between cultural Preservation and Progress.

“In 2024 and beyond, it’s so Critical that such Traditions from Africa are Preserved”, says Ms. Trushna Buddhdev-Patel, Co-Founder, Chief Executive Officer & Content Director of YAKWETU™ - the maker of MyMovies.Africa™. “And we are Dedicated to making this Film available Worldwide to raise Awareness, for Support”.

Using proprietory Technology, MyMovies.Africa™ has a new Request Screening feature, which now allows Institutions like Museums, Universities, Colleges and Schools anywhere in the World, to Self-serve a Screening of such important Documentaries offline to Groups of various Sizes, while the Content is still Encrypted against Piracy – instead of sending a unprotected MP4. Request Screening was first Commercially Tested with Mavuno Church in Uganda, during Good Friday 2024, with a Screening of ‘WHERE THE RIVER DIVIDES’.

“We hope that Universities, Colleges, Schools, Government Offices and Non-Governmental Organisations in Uganda, and its Diaspora, will Screen ‘THE TONTO MASTERS OF KAINAMO’, as a Conversation-starter about the Importance of such Cultural Preservation in Uganda and Africa”, says Mr. Mike Strano, Co-Founder & Chief Operations Officer of YAKWETU™. “The Film is also available to Rent or Own, by Ugandans and Africans at Home & Abroad, in local currency and methods, on MyMovies.Africa™. Proceeds go to the Filmmakers, so they can continue Telling such important Stories.”

Meanwhile, Mike Strano shall be in Kampala on Friday 18th October 2024, after Presentations on Distribution and Anti-Piracy at European Work in Progress (EWIP), and the International Film Distribution Summit (IFDS), both in Cologne – Germany, earlier that Week. “I look forward to Meeting more Filmmakers from Uganda, as we increase our Catalogue of local Content for our Service there”, he says.
